Julia is not just one of the best physicians I’ve ever had, but she’s also a kind, thoughtful, and patient human being (which we love because sometimes going to the doctor is scary!)

I had some basil cell carcinoma and Julia found it, biopsied, and recommended me to another amazing physician (Dr. Jenny Hu) who removed it alongside her team. It’s easy to not mind a medical experience when it’s normal or “everything is fine,” but when inevitably stuff sometimes isn’t, you want to have somebody like Julia in your court. I’m so grateful for the comfort I feel when I go in for visits; it’s night and day when compared to some less than optimal experiences I’ve had in other offices! I have been going to Metropolis Dermatology for about two years now, and it has been, and continues to be, a wonderful experience. The staff are always friendly, thorough, and welcoming. They make everything run so smoothly, and I appreciate how prompt they are in answering any questions I have.

But the star of the show is Dr. Shauna Higgins! I could spend all day writing about what an incredible physician she is. She is the kind of doctor people wish for. She’s incredibly caring, so attentive, and extremely knowledgeable. At every appointment with her, I walk out feeling seen and heard, and I always leave with a smile on my face.

Prior to coming to her, I was struggling with my skin in many ways, but she has completely fixed all of those issues! If I could have her as all of my doctors, I absolutely would.

They have snacks, tea, coffee , and  water for you. The staff is very nice and pleasant.  One staff suggested a nice restaurant and bakery . Dr. Higgins  is excellent and has great communication skills. I asked  a few questions and she gladly answered. Some doctors are short and blunt and you don't feel comfortable asking questions. I have been seeing Dr. Higgins for years now to address issues like recurrent hormonal acne, aggressive dark spots, and other issues, and she has been the best derm that I have ever been to - and I have been to several over the years. Since our first meeting, she immediately diagnosed all of my issues and provided me with a very clear plan of action that would actively treat all of the issues I mentioned to her, while also still taking into consideration how sensitive my skin is and how the slightest change can cause an adverse reaction that could take months to resolve. And she immediately knew the right mix of medications to address each issue without doing more damage to my already fragile skin. As a black woman, it's really hard to find a doctor that really knows how to address diverse skin and their various issues. Also, she was so communicative following my appointment -- any questions I had, she always made sure to respond via message or whenever I called the office. I couldn't be happier to find someone that I feel very confident really knows what they are doing, and are not just prescribing harsh, aggressive medications that do more harm than good. Dr. Shauna is a life saver!!! I have been dealing with acne since I was in middle school. It would come and ago with age - from teenage hormonal to adult hormonal. Finally, I found a dermatologist who didn’t just throw Accutane at me! Even though the appointments are quick, I never feel rushed. The products can be a little pricey. I love Dr Higgins ! I’ve been a patient with her for the last two years. I originally came to see her because I was struggling with painful  hormonal acne and a lot of hyper pigmentation issues. Two years later my skin is GLOWING and my confidence is up! Dr Higgins is so warm, friendly, and knowledgeable. She cares for all her patients like they are her family. I even come to the office twice a month now to see Bella for extraction facials that are covered by my insurance (incredible! unheard of! a $30 professional facial!). The team at the front desk are so sweet and also make sure that my favorite snacks are stocked in the waiting room when I come in, and are always really helpful when I need to coordinate my medication refills. I have recommended lots of my friends to see Dr Higgins for everything from acne issues to hair loss treatments. Dr Higgins is such a gem and I’m so happy I found her !
